The talent that crowns a new role at Finserve with top placement in the School of Economics' finance course

Four quick questions for Emma Westerberg, who steps up from Finserve's analysis team to the role of Head of Origination, with responsibility for the analysis of the loans that form the basis of the exposure in Finserve's credit funds. And who just finished the School of Economics' diploma course for financial analysts as a course test.

Emma

What is your previous experience from credit analysis and origination?
- I have been part of Finserve's analysis team since 2017 and have learned an incredible amount from our experienced team along the way. The work has consisted of analyzing the loans that form the basis of the exposure in the credit funds managed by Finserve. I have also been involved in building and developing many of the processes that form the basis of how we work in the group today. Therefore, I feel very comfortable taking the step up as responsible for our new borrowers and our analysis work.

You get a new role as Head of Origination, what does that mean?
- This means that I get the main responsibility for the analysis of the companies that apply for loans with Finserve's credit funds as counterparty. The role includes everything from initial contact with potential borrowers to negotiation of loan agreements. A very important part is in-depth financial analyzes of the borrowers' creditworthiness, as well as analysis and evaluation of the collateral that borrowers provide for the loans that are entered into, so that the unit owners are protected in the event of payment suspension. An important part of the role is also to be responsible for the continuous follow-up and analysis of the borrowers' financial situation, so that we can manage risks proactively. This work has become even more important in the wake of the pandemic.

What do you see as the biggest challenge with your new role?
- Of course, it is a great trust to be given the main responsibility for which loans are mediated in Finserve's credit funds. The funds are significantly larger than they were when I started at Finserve and it will be very exciting to continue following our journey with even more focus on customer contact and analysis. As we continue to grow, the most important thing is that we maintain the right main focus – a solid credit analysis is the key to ensuring a good return for our shareholders. We never drum up our credit analysis – it's a proven process and I look forward to being involved in developing it even further.

You have recently completed the School of Economics' diploma training for financial analysts as a course test, what knowledge and experiences do you take with you from there?
- It is a very broad training program that includes everything from portfolio management, risk management, interest rate instruments and macro analysis to company valuation and company financing. What I appreciated about the course was that there was a very clear link between theory and practice where lectures were interspersed with practical exercises and practical case discussions. The course also contributed to creating an expanded network, which I will greatly benefit from in my new role as Head of Origination at Finserve.
